ITS Video Over IP (H.323) Network Services

Video Over IP Services
ITS now offers a suite of services that will integrate H.323, video over IP transmission with traditional NCIH H.320 service. The H.323 Video Service allows users to conduct distance learning/videoconferencing over their IP data connection. The H.323 service includes a web-based scheduler, multipoint control unit (to provide for multiple sites to participate in the same video session) and a firewall traversal solution. Training, endpoint configuration, and technical support will be provided to clients who subscribe to this service in addition to problem reporting/resolution support from the Customer Support Center. The H.323 Video Service will have the capability to operate with existing NCIH sites seamlessly. The monthly rate provides for unlimited point-to-point and multipoint access, but does not include the IP data connection cost.

Best effort H.323 service will depend heavily on available WAN bandwidth, local firewall configuration, and LAN architecture. VNS staff will consult with clients on network requirement guidelines, LAN issues and configuration options. Please note that local firewalls at your site or campus may block H.323 traffic. ITS can not accept responsibility for local firewall issues but does have the Ridgeway firewall traversal solution available.  Please review the VNS Video-over-IP Guidlines for policies and detailed infomation pertaining to your network configuration.

Video Over IP Gateway services
The H.323 Gateway service is for clients who need an IP- based videoconferencing (H.323) endpoint to communicate with existing NCIH (H.320) sites. Depending on frequency of use, ITS will either schedule the conference or train the client on how to schedule the session. Registration with the ITS gatekeeper is required. Users who subscribe to this service will be provided training, endpoint configuration information, and technical support. Usage may be purchased on a per-hour basis.
