Overview of the ITS Data and NCIH Consolidation Project On January 28 the NCACCP approved a proposal presented by the North Carolina Community College System Office Divisions of Administration and Business and Finance.  This proposal involved consolidation of ITS data and NCIH services into one fund, to be managed by the System Office.  The consolidation is made possible by wholesale improvements to the state network, deployment of new video technologies, and the commitment of the NCACCP to consolidate the existing funds.

The Consolidation Project will upgrade our videoconferencing network to the current H.323 industry standard, allow expansion of video services to all main campuses, facilitate the expansion of data infrastructure at each college, and move all budget management to the System Office.

The migration of the entire System is a massive undertaking to be completed by the end of this fiscal year.  To that end, the System Office and ITS staff have collaborated to develop informational and communication tools to facilitate (1) the statewide migration to H.323 standard videoconferencing and (2) expansion of our collective data infrastructure.

In order to facilitate the business and technical changes required for that migration which begins immediately, the NC Community College System Office and ITS recommend.

1. Each community college designates one person to administer the migration with support from the college leadership.  Business, Information Technology, and Distance Learning should have representation on this team.  The System Office staff suggests that you include representation of these interests to address migration issues and solutions important to your college.  These issues affect individual college technology and distance learning plans.  It is acknowledged that each college will have unique issues to be handled individually for each college.

To streamline the process, we suggest one point of contact for each college.  Please E-mail these points of contact with phone numbers to Bill Randall at randallb@ncccs.cc.nc.us.

2. System Office staff and ITS staff have generated migration materials that will assist your efforts.  These will be updated as needed and will reflect your questions and concerns.  Online multimedia materials will include information to help guide migration for both data and video services.  Updates to the site will be made as questions arise and new information is available.
